Meet DataDrivenHockey

My Story

Hi, I’m Nick.

I’m a BIG hockey fan. I’ve been playing since I was 4 years old and watching hockey since birth.

I’m also a bit of a nerd. I have a Bachelors degree in Chemical Engineering and a Masters degree in Civil/Environmental Engineering. I decided on that route for university for the same reason many 17 and 18 year-olds do – I had no idea what I wanted to do with my life and I was good at math/physics.

I started the DataDrivenHockey Instagram page in late 2021. I had been working in modelling engineering for about a year and a half at that point and I wanted to combine my passion for hockey with my skill with numbers.

I realized pretty quickly after starting DataDrivenHockey that I had found my passion. Hockey, modelling and no soul-sucking corporate BS? Yes please.

About a year and a half after starting DataDrivenHockey (late 2023) I left my modelling engineering job to work on DataDrivenHockey full time.

I love the extra layer of insight that the numbers can bring to the greatest sport on earth. My mission with DataDrivenHockey is to make those insights accessible and exciting for hockey fans, and make the world of hockey a better place while doing it 🙂
